Packed the bags the night before - we are moving again. Breakfast round the corner at a bakery. Drag the cases up the road again to the ferry terminal. The Interislander which runs across the Cook Strait between the two main New Zealand islands.
The ferry procedure was like that of a plane - we had to check in our baggage adn collect it off a carousel at the other end! Journey was quite smooth, there was plenty to do, the crossing is about 3 hours - they even have a cinema on board.
At the Wellington end we discovered there is a free shuttle from the ferry terminal to the railway station. This nearer to our digs for the night so we took this then dragged the cases again. Only a few hundred metres though. This will be the poshest hotel we will have on this trip - the Ibis in Wellington. Real posh. Internet was $0.68 a minute (nearly $7 for 10 minutes) what a rip off!!! Other places we have been to have offered internet for $5 for an hour!!
We had an afternoon rambling round Wellington that was close to us (did the botanical gardens up a cable car) then had a quick nap cos this is sooooo tiring you know?
Out for tea to an Irish bar. Kilkenny's beer on draught. Yum. There was a guy entertaining us (backing tapes and a keyboard). Had some good folky Irish stuff going on then launched into Scotland the Brave. Good job it was New Zealand. He'd have got lynched anywhere else!
Tomorrow is a full day round Wellington.
