Wow. What a journey. Up in Pontefract for 05.30 for the train from Doncaster to London Heathrow. (Thanks to Des our neighbour for dropping us off at the train station). Flight was initially to LAX (11hours 50 mins) on a Boeing 747-400. Big plane. Saw Jack Osbourne on our flight. Only saw - he was escorted upstairs to VIP of course. I guess he got off at LAX.
Into LAX was OK - paranoid American immigration (we're only transiting through) made us have fingerprints of both index fingers and a picture as well. A wait was made more bearable by free tea, coffee and water. The water they brought round to us while we were in the queue. They are human after all!
No need for baggage. Back on the same plane to Aukland. This leg was 12 hours 15 minutes. Got some good sleep and a bit of walking around. Got to admit, all food on the Air New Zealand flights was good. 4 meals plus wine, tea, water.
Into Aukland for about 05:30 local time.
A nice walk outside in the warm humid light rain. No waterproofs but it was sheer bliss after being cooped up on the plane.
A short flight to Christchurch (1 hour) and we were finally here!
Checked in early to the hotel (Oaks smartstay on Cashell street). Really nice, good security. Self-catering with cooker, fridge etc. in room. Door has a whistle where the wind is blowing underneat it, we stopped that by the judicious use of one of our bags! Sleep, shower then back out to see Christchurch. We both still feel like we're travelling though the effect is random and a bit dizzying. So this is jetlag?
Lots of photos, went on the tram tour since we were both too tired to do much else. Had a meal of Lasagne before getting a few bits together from a local shop to take back to the hotel.
