So 16 strangers from: Germany, France, England, Holland, Slovakia and Finland got on a boat together. Furthermore the ratio of girls to boys was 1:1, better odds than any bloke has ever seen in his life! We all slept on the top deck and wee packed in like sardines although sardines have comfier bed rolls to sleep on! Meal times were on the lower deck and consisted of rice plus chicken or fish (indonesian style); the food was very nice however the portion sizes were the size I would've given the anorexic girls at work?!

Enough of the moaning, it's far too British and besides I did actually have a good time! First Off, for me, it was fascinating to see the group dynamics and to observe the establishment of the cliques that inevitably happen. Here are a few examples, first established was the cool young group (I luckily fell into that category?!), then there was the girly girl group, golden oldies, middle aged sun tan lotion experts and finally the bonkers Slovakian. The only one I feel I need to explain is the bonkers Slovakian category, this bloke laughed historically at anything he thought he understood then spent an hour every evening doing the most bizarre exercises. By bizarre I mean cheesy dance moves without the presence of music e.g the wood chop followed by an eyeball rolling exercise whilst wearing some very small shorts and a tank top?!

Wow that took some explaining! Right secondly, activities: most of the days were spent sunbathing and snorkelling. The snorkelling and swimming was especially good, i saw some amazing coral in places where hardly anyone swims and thoroughly enjoyed swimming with sting rays and turtles. Oh and I suppose one other highlight was seeing Komodo dragons!!! I visited both rinca and Komodo Island where we were taken on a guided trek to see the awesome beasts. FUN FACT: after you've been bitten by one you have 1 week to live as it's the bacteria in their mouth that kills you! Anyway also found out that they are pretty fast so I told everyone to wear flip flops whilst I wore trainers.... Muuhahah in the words of Grandpam "always male sure there is someone slower than yourself, that way they get eaten first". I digress, I also enjoyed our trek to a waterfall and visiting various beaches where I planned what my own island would have when I bought one!

The evening activities involved small amounts of alcohol and group bonding.. Slovakian guy was doing his dancing at this point. It was at this time in the evening when I became known as a technology wizard, which is actually so far from the truth but I relished the looks of astonishment when I showed them my stuff (pun intended). My stuff include iphone full of music they liked (good dj was included), portable speaker connected via blue tooth, starlight app (which was so useful due to the unbelievable amount of stars), then finally after the question "but surely up will run out of battery?", Was asked, I reviewed my solar power battery pack.. At which point girls swooned and men patted me on the back! That might have been a bit of an exaggeration.

All in all the trip was good fun and a personal highlight was swimming with a turtle for 10 minutes whilst he looked and me and said "you totally rock dude!" (Finding nemo quote)
