Coincidently, I bumped into the three old American cyclists from Cocoon soon after I arrived, and they gave me directions to the hostel. As soon as I entered my four bed dormitory, I knew that I was sharing with them as there was cycling gear everywhere, maps on the floor, sweaty socks hanging from the window etc. The hostel was a big one so to be in the same dorm as them really was quite bizarre...
It had been a bit of a long and drawn out journey from Andalsnes as the train's engine went "kaput" in the driver's words, and we had to get a bus for the rest of the way. This was the cue for comical scenes with tons of people trying to squeeze their luggage into the storage space, and I suffered the wrath of one old Norwegian bag because I legitimately beat her to the last bit of space with my backpack!
Despite all this, I was in a great mood when we finally arrived in Trondheim because the sun was beating down and I was walking around in a t-shirt for once. I had a stroll around to get my bearings, and visited the impressive gothic cathedral as well as the Kristiansnen Fort for an aerial view of the city. There seemed to be an upbeat atmosphere around town, so rather than returning to the hostel I went to The London Pub to watch the Brazil game, and promptly dragged out my £6 pint for the full 90 minutes!
My final day in Trondheim was a long one because I was booked onto the night train to Bodo, and it didn't depart until 11.30pm. So with my backpack in a locker at the station, I had a nice relaxing time enjoying the aforementioned festivities, and organising myself ahead of my fast approaching trip to Svalbard. By 'organising' I mean shelling out a lot of money on trips for when I'm there, but it's a once (or twice) in a lifetime opportunity so I'm not about to start scrimping and saving just yet...
