I only decided to go to Alesund at the last minute after speaking to a Scottish couple about it. I'm glad I went as it was a pretty little city set on a peninsula, with some buildings on the water's edge like in Venice. I think it would have looked even nicer had the clouds not obscured the surrounding hills, but I still got a nice view when I climbed the steps up to Aksla.

I met an older English guy back at the hostel and I enjoyed watching the England v Sweden game with him as he was pretty knowledgeable, reminiscing about the 1966 final. I do hope that noone was trying to sleep when Joe Cole scored though, as his cheers nearly brought the roof down! He was a nice bloke, but I noticed he lost his cool in the middle of the night when he woke up the obligatory snorer and asked him to be quiet!
