(Incidentally the dinosaur killing asteroid was over 10km wide and crashed into Mexico)
Continuing on our drive we noticed a patch of rain that looked like an atomic cloud right in our path. It definitely felt like a bomb has gone off when we drove through the crazy storm - pulling over by the side of the road cause we were worried the hail was going to smash through the windscreen or the wind blow the car off the road. At least we knew it was only a 'patch' we had to ride out. Driving out it looked like it had snowed!
The second big hole hole was the little Colorado canyon which was managed by the Navajo people and required a 'donation' to enter
Of course the most impressive was the third and biggest hole in the ground - the Grand Canyon.
That night we decided to get some culture in us and went to see a quartet at the grand canyon music festival. We got there just after it started and they rushed us in without paying. It was quite nice, but by intermission we'd had out fill so we snuck off rather than paying to stay for the second half.
Staying a couple of nights allowed us to do some decent hikes down into the canyon and to see the IMAX film which just made us wish we had a spare 3 or 4 days to go rafting through it instead.
