Driving west now, parts of route 66 are like ghost towns with so many abandoned old neon signs for motels and restaurants.

We stopped off the see a volcano crater, which nearby had ice caves whose temperature never rises above freezing, despite being open to the elements.

Drove through the Petrified Forest National Park - it wasn't the most beautiful place we've been to, but amazing to see trees that are older than the dinosaurs made out of stone. The trees were alive during the late triassic, about 225 million years ago.
