Crossed the longest bridge in the world* (38km across a lake) to make our way to n'awlins. Beautiful old buildings in the French quarter (build by the Spanish) - like most nice places are it seems to be full of horrible tourists. Their biggest tourist strip, Bourbon street, is a seedy strip of bars playing bad rock music and men out the front try and call you in to their strip joints.

Starting to eat more American food. May god have mercy on my waistline.

During our 3 days we tried several New Orleans delicacies (frog legs, hogs head, craw fish, alligator, gumbo and jambalaya), took a paddle steamer cruise along the Mississippi (drinking 'hurricane' cocktails), tried to avoid the mayhem of Bourbon street as much as possible and went on a ghost tour. The ghost stories were not too worrying, but the true accounts of slave mistreatment and yellow fever were.

We also used the stay in NO to service our van and get the AC working properly.

Rich's Travel Tip #1: Despite their name, "restrooms" are not for sleeping.

*longest bridge in the world according to the Americans. 4th longest according to Wikipedia. It is the longest over continuous water though, and pretty freakin' long!
