Well, its now just me on my lonesome after waving Amber off at Lima airport. My first task was to get to San Diego via two flights, firstly from Lima to Mexico City, then to Tijuana before getting a bus across the boarder. It was all going swimmingly until I got to Tijuana.... The bus was 12 dollars and I had 11.... The price had gone up since my guide book was published and Lima airport had stolen most of my dollars in a last minute airport tax... Therefore, I had to get some Mexican Spodoolies and get them changed, all without Amber's trusty Spanish!!! The phase book was dusted off and I managed it with lots of arm waving and English words with "o" stuck at the end.... Spanish really isn't my strong point!
A promise of "we leave in 5 minutes" later from the driver and I was on the bus....
San Diego is VERY American! The culture stock was VERY amusing... From waiters, "looking after me today", to overly friendly randoms walking up to me in the street and wanting to know my life storey, to Adult Porn shops being called, "San Diego Adult Material and Culture for Your Well Being" across the road from the Pizza place in which I was having my first meal since Lima...
I am in a 4 bed dorm and the people I am with are well worth a mention! There is a Japanise Judo instructor, an OAP from Mexico with back spazams (I heard all about them in detail...), and best of all, an American/Chinese Feng Shui Master
Went to San Deigo Zoo by the way! Pictures will be added soon when I get to a computer that lets me. It was really an excellent zoo with loads of endangered animals set in a beautiful park. There was a quote on one of the exibits which stated, "Once the last animal in a species dies, it would take another Earth and another Heaven before that animal will have a chance to live again." A cool quote..... especially after you have spent the day looking at 50+ species of endangered animals.
Enough for now... I will be updating this travel blog periodically but not necessarily sending out an e-mail, so if you are interested, please keep checking the link!!
Yours, in search of Scalley!
