Hello,

We have just spent the last few days in the chilled out town of Kampot in the south of Cambodia. On the way here we passed through Kep once a favourite with the French as a beachside retreat you can see the former glory days from the large ornate walls and gates that are most of what is left nowadays.

In Kampot we took a day trip up to Bokor Hill station, again this was once a French village with stunning villas and even a church. When the French left in the 50's the largest villa was turned into a hotel and casino for Cambodian visitors, the King even had a palace. During the civil war most of the buildings were destroyed and all that remains today are the shadows of the past. Getting to the hill station was quite the trip as logging lorries and tanks have left the once paved road in a bad way. We were in the back of a pickup truck ducking as the branches flew past. There were various stops along the way as flat tyres and a broken axle took there toll on some of the other trucks!  However when we made it to the top the views were well worth it, we were also able to walk around the old buildings which apparently are pretty spooky on a foggy day.
After a walk in the jungle on the way back down we stopped off for a boat trip along the river which was very nice before grabbing a bite at a local restaurant.

We are now back in Phnom Penh and tomorrow head for Vietnam!

Bye for now.
