Hello,
Spent a couple of days in Melaka which is a popular stop on the tourist trail due to the diverse history that is here. The sea infront of Melaka has been an important strategic point due to the straits, and because of this Melaka has a dutch, portuguese and british past.
On the first day we took a visit to some of the oldest buildings which are portuguese, walking up to the old chapel at the top of the hill. At the top there was a group of local school girls who at first I thought wanted me to take their picture, but it tuned out they wanted to take my picture! I couldn't quite get to the bottom of why (perhaps they were getting their revenge on all us western tourists!) but at one point quite a queue formed. Tom put on his best film star voice and told them we had to be going but perhaps we would be back tomorrow (for autographs of course!).
The following day we headed into China town to see and taste some of the Nyonya-Baba culture a mix of chinese and malay. We took a tour around the Nyonya-Baba house which was amazingly ornate and the lady running the tour was hilarious. After such exertions we topped up our energy with some of the delicious food.
Next stop KL.
Bye for now.
