We made a brief stop at Rockhampton to spend a day at the Myella farm (about 100km inland) to check out an Aussie cattle station.
After an early start we arrived at the farm to spend the morning horse riding. The Aussie saddle and way of holding the reins is totally different to what I'm used to back home so I felt a bit of a novice, specially as my horse was a touch on the energetic side (as we left the gates to head out into the wide open I was advised twice 'whatever you do don't kick him!'). Tom did very well on his horse though and even impressed the Jillaroo who was out riding with us.
After lunch we had our next challenge, to learn how ride a motorbike (very slowly of course, mum and dad!)

. I felt pretty nervous, but we were run through all the controls pretty slowly and then it was onto the practice track for a try. This went better than I had expected so after a fair bit of practicing we were finally let loose to ride around the farm. We had good fun doing this and when we came back both of us were graded a C, meaning we were confident beginners but still had a bit of work to do before we were allowed to muster the cattle by bike. After this we headed home, pretty dirty and very tired (it was 35 deg in the shade) but having had a good day.Next stop Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays.
