Hello,
After a brilliant time in Sydney, it was back with our old friend the bus. This time we are taking the greyhound from Sydney to Cairns (with stops on the way), as it is only approx 3000km...nothing to bus pros like ourselves!
First stop was Port Maquarie, about 8hrs from Sydney. Here we watched some of the Australasian body board championships which was pretty fun. We also went to visit the Koala Hospital, for my first ever glimpse of these furry cuties. We did of course learn lots more about Koalas, other than they are cute! Unfortunately the weather could be described as a touch inclement, as the heavens opened and it utterly poured so that was about all we got done in Port Macquaire before hopping back on the bus and heading for Byron Bay
Another 7hrs on the bus (kangaroo spotting makes the time go quicker) and here we are in Byron, which is the most easterly point in Australia (obligatory photos by the sign taken!). It is also surrounded by stunning white sand beaches, and thankfully the weather is back to sunny. Today we were took a walk up the lighthouse (and the most easterly point) where you are able to spot humpback whales from the land, infact they actually come in pretty close. It has been quite lucky time for us as August and September is when they head back to Antarctica for the summer. Some of them were giving quite a show as they splashed their fins for the crowd!
We have a couple more days here and then it is on to Surfer's Paradise.
I'll upload some pics soon, the internet here has a rather annoying system where you can't use the computer like a normal computer.
Bye for now.
