Hello,
After leaving Taupo, we headed for a brief visit to Napier which is famous for its wonderful art deco buildings. We had a great time here as no-one seems to have told Napier that it is winter in NZ so the weather was an lovely sunny 20 degrees, which was brilliant for our walking tour of the town and highly competitive mini golf tournament!
Update: I forgot to add that we came 3rd in the pub quiz in Napier winning ourselves a $20 voucher which we treated ourselves to lunch with, woohoo!
We then headed on to Phill towers in Wellington (which was by far the best backpackers in NZ...very exclusive too), and spent and excellent evening seeing Phill in action with his drumming group (www.batucada.org.nz). The following day we visited the brilliant Te papa museum, this is the national museum of NZ and has some wonderful displays. Tom was particularly taken with the poisoners display where you had to act as a super sleuth and follow clues.
Update: Getting super forgetful, before visiting the museum we met up with Ralf (another old lab group member) and his lovely fiancee Karen for a delicious lunch. Congratulations to both of them and good luck with the wedding!
We are now off to the south island tomorrow (31st July), although I'm not sure we'll manage to emulate the quality of Phill's tours on our own!
Bye for now.
