We arrived in La Paz right in the middle of the biggest fiesta of the year here. This was great because it was easily the most spectacular parade we have seen so far, but not so good because the hostal we had planned at staying in was slap bang in the centre of the action and it was impossible to get there.
Tom put his map reading skills into action and along with two english girls we had met on the bus we searched out the only hostal in the area that meant we didnīt have to cross the parade. Fortunately Tomīs internal compass was working and we found one of the nicest hostals we have stayed in and at a bargain price called Hostal Galeria.
After dropping off our bags, we headed out to watch the parade which started around 9am and seemed to continue until the marchers fell over...mainly due to the fact the parade was beer powered
Fortunately we bumped into Deirdre and Sam who had some space on their hotel viewing bench and we were able to watch everything in comfort. It was a great day as the atmosphere was so much fun and the costumes spectacular.
Since then we have had a couple of days in La Paz which is the worldīs highest capital at 3600m above sea level, at first walking up the hills left me a little breathless but Iīm starting to get used to it now.
La Paz is a quirky place, not quite as photogenic as some of the other cities we have visited, but one place that is interesting is the Witches market where you can see Llama fetuses which are supposed to bring good luck.
Bye for now.
