Hello,
We are now in Vicabamba a small village known for tranquility and beautiful mountain views. The trip from Cuenca to Loja on the way had some great views too, but was a very winding 6 h bus journey.
Today we took a walk around the valley, following a map that we got at our hostal (another nice place called Rendez-Vous), the scenery was wonderful, but the map could be called non descriptive as we started out well, but as we followed a random path to head back into town it turned out that indeed the path was heading nowhere in particular! There was some great small waterfalls on the way though and some lovely butterflies. Tom had to act like George of the Jungle though, as I was wearing sandals which were good for the stream crossings, Tomīs trainers werenīt quite as good...just as well he is better from the evil chicken wings
Next stop Peru!
Update 1-5-07
Decided to stay a couple more days in Vilcabamba, but moved hostal to ...http://www.izhcayluma.com/
a friendly german run place, with fantastic views of the valley. From here I arranged an all day horse riding tour with La tasca tours, and it was out of this world. We rode up high into the Podocarpus national park for 3 h, before taking a trek which felt like real jungle exploration as our Guide, Rene, used his machete to clear the paths in parts (We even saw a tarantula)! I have got some great pictures which I will add as soon as we get to some better computers. On the way back we had some great canters alongside the river, an amazing day out.
Bye for now!
