Mum, Dad, and Rhys dropped me off at the airport and after the odd tear i was wandering around terminal 4 waiting for check it to open.
I instantly discovered the majority of Indian's do not understand the concept of queueing, once i was at the correct check in desk i waited patiently for it to open while numerous Indians bypassed any of the gates in the way to get straight to the front of the desk, however i had the last laugh as they had all fought to get to one of the of the desk and when it was time to check in they started at the other end which i had been patiently waiting by. Rhodri 1 - Indians 0
Once through security i had a few hours to kill so with my last remaining British Pounds had 3 pints of Staropramen and a cheese and ham toastie plus a meal deal from boots, yes i am a fatty i know :)
The flight left on time and i had a spare seat next to me so i just put my feet up and went to sleep after watching Guilt Tripped which had Seth Rogan in, it was ok nothing special but killed a bit of time. we landed in Mumbai at around 0230 local time and i then had 3 hours to kill in Mumbai, yes as you guessed it i stuffed my face again for the price of 10 dollars i had a pizza hut meal which consisted of a chicken pizza, 2 slices of garlic bread and a Pepsi.
After scoffing that down i aimlessly wondered around the terminal until it was time to board the flight to Goa which would take around 45 minutes.
Upon arrival in Goa i made my way through cusutoms to the pre paid taxi stand which is where i got my taxi to vagator which cost me 1200 rs which converted to £13.30 , crazy for a 80 minute journey.
This is where my trip got "interesting" there is no polite way to say it but the drivers over here are fucking loonatics, i dont know how the whole population of India isnt extinct from road traffic accidents. Mum would have had a heart attack within 30 seconds off leaving the car park, driving on the wrong side of the road, overtaking on blind bends, 3 or 4 wide on a path that vaguely looked like a road. constantly blowing the horn for no apparant reason. Numerous animals such as cows, dogs, chickens roaming the road, at one point a cow was in our way and after the driver pressing the horn atleast 50 times the cow still wouldnt budge so the driver decided to drive up and hit him in the backside to prod him along and get him out of our way, not what i would have done but it worked and this seems the norm over here.
Anyone on 2 wheels must have the life expectancty of 3 weeks and that is been optimistic. Numerous people will be on a bike with nothing but shorts and t shirts but they will quite happily carry a helmet over there shoulder rather than actually wear it, also you will see scooters containing 3 or 4 generations of the same family on, plus a weeks shopping, and livestock.
I arrived at the hostel for 0830 and checked into my 4 bed dorm at 0900, it is basic just a bed with a ceiling fan along with a toilet and shower but for £4.17 i cant complain and it is all i need.
The hostel is really nice and has alot of good things which make the price even better, a free continental breakfast, free wi fi, beers for 50 rs which is just over 50p each, a good common room area.
After check in and a bit of brekkie i wondered down to the beach with my 2 room mates from Australia, as we are coming up to the monsoon season the sea was rough and pretty dangerous to actualy go in so we just walked along the beach for a few minutes until the torrential rain started, however even when it rains over here due to the humidy its still warm and you are never wet for that long.
Anyway we decided to wander back and get a bit of grub for lunch at "The Mango Tree" which is 2 minutes walk from the hostel, i had red prawn curry and a litre bottle of water for 210 rs which is £2.30.
If any of you are interested i flew on a Boeing 777-300 to Mumbai and a Airbus A321, im sure Rhys will be telling me that i should have sat in seat x, y, or z and one has a better safety record tha the other but i am here safe and sound.
I didnt do much else for the rest of the day and finally gave in around 1830 and went to sleep.
