Chiang Mai, what an amazing place. We spent a few days there but I wish we could have spent a few weeks.  I arrived after Cory because of being in the hospital in Phi Phi.  Upon arrival in Chiang Mai I hit up an internet café to find out where Cory was staying so I went and grabbed another room there because it was only 18$ a night.  I went walking down the street to find something to eat and on my way I see Cory, so the kids are back together.

On the first day we woke up and I rented a motorbike and Cory went for a massage and I cruised up the mountain on the bike.  Might as well drive a bike with little experience in a city of over a million when they drive on the left side of the road.  Well everything worked out and the drive up the mountain was amazing so I knew I had to grab Cory to show him the drive.  Went back, grabbed the kid and headed for another rip.  Hit up a bunch of waterfalls and drove up the mountain for the sunset.  Just a great day all in all.  Later that night, two of my friends from Switzerland showed up so we met up with them to plan our next couple days of adventures.

Cory and I hit up the Sunday night market, which is so great and an absolute must do.  We picked up some great shirts and some other items from the market then headed to the bars for a bit before hitting the sack at the hotel.  It felt weird being on meds and not having a drink in my hand.  I am still just as bad of a dancer… but without the beer I actually know it and that is no fun haha.

Woke up in the morning and headed on our one day excursion.  It began with riding elephants through the jungle which was pretty wicked.  It is amazing how much those things eat.  I think beard is part elephant… miss ya bud.  Then we headed out on a jungle trek to a waterfall.  The walk was pretty tame as far as hiking goes, but the scenery was amazing.  The waterfall was great and the water was sooooo cold.  We went in and shivered until we had enough then hiked back.  I was completely taken by the beauty of the jungle.  We hadn't really seen anything like it so far in our travels.  It seemed as though Vietnam had population everywhere and I was really nice to see untouched nature

Next we hit up the river for some white water rafting.  The rafting itself was a bit lame because of the season and low rapids.  However I would have to say that it was the most fun I have ever had white water rafting.  Our guide was a joker and started throwing the girls in the moment we hit the water.  Basically it turned into a huge water fight with the other boat and a wrestling match with our guide and the four of us. Our guide spent more time in the water than on our boat.  I honestly don’t remember laughing that hard in so long.  That took us to the point where we were going to raft on the bamboo rafts that the locals use.  This was also a wicked experience.  So I sat down on the boat and started to relax… then I felt something on my had and looked over and there was a spider that was the size of my hand sitting on my hand.  So my heart stopped momentarily and I flung it into the water.  Then the guide told me that was a very poisonous spider but quite friendly.  I slept really well the next couple nights lol.  Man am I a pussy.  Cory, Paula and myself went dancing at the clubs for a bit, then saw a live band that didn’t really know the words but it was still a riot.

The next morning the four of us hit up the zoo which had a few highlights.  We were a bit rushed because Cory and I were going quading up a mountain in the afternoon but we had enough time to see all the highlights other than the aquarium.  We fed giraffes.  We saw 3 pandas, which was definitely the highlight.  We were so close we could hear them eating, pretty awesome creatures.  We also rented big hamster balls and ran around the lake.  We laughed so hard we could hardly control ourselves.  It was so tiring and had so many wicked spills.  We left the zoo and headed to go ride the ATVs.

The ride to the mountain was so tiring and I was falling asleep at the wheel.  I kept nodding off and waking up as my head was headed towards the handle bars.  Haha.  Once we started in the back country it was pretty deadly.  We headed to the top of the mountain and saw some rice fields.  Heading back we stopped at a local hut selling strawberry wine and sun dried strawberries so we decided to surprise our friends for our last night there to celebrate a fantastic few days.  Chiang Mai just wouldn’t have been the same without them.  Just a couple days of non stop laughing.  We were off to bed pretty early then grabbed our flight and headed to Singapore for a few days.
