8 hour layovers? not as bad as you'd think.

Everyone dreads long layovers. Let's face it; it's no fun sitting on your hands while waiting for a connecting flight. So, what to do? Check out the local scene of course, especially if you find yourself in a city as killer as Dublin.

I couldn't have picked a better city to kick off my trip. In ways Dublin reminded me a bit of Boston... makes sense since there is a larger population of Irish in Boston than in Irleand's own capital. I caught a bus directly into the city center and hopped off onto O'Connell Street. Just a quick walk north and across the Laffey River was Temple Bar. I'd been informed by a Dublin local (in Boston) that it was the place to go for a decent meal and pint. At 9 am it was a bit early for a Guinness but I did stop into a decent little place for a proper Irish breakfast of eggs, bangers, bread and blood pudding.

Afterward I made a quick stop at Trinity college. Walking though the campus I was stopped by a couple of students who asked directions. Sorry girls, I'm just visiting myself... their response of "well, you look like you belong here!" sent me away floating.

All in all, an 8 hour layover isn't nearly long enough.
