Lots of things going on now! On Thursday, I got my DTP shot (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis).  On Friday and Saturday, I was miserable. My arm was swollen, red and achy, and I felt like I had the flu. Yuch! Luckily, I felt better by Sunday. Sunday I did a lot of my packing. I have to be able to carry everything myself, so I am trying to pack everything very efficiently. I am taking one large duffel bag with rollers, a cosmetic bag with rollers, and a back pack and my laptop case as carry-ons. I made 3 skirts on Friday, so I got the duffel all packed on Sunday. Most of my toiletry bag is packed, too.

On Thursday, we had a conference call with my CCS coordinator and the other 11 people that will be arriving when I do. She went over everything we need to know about getting picked up at the airport by their staff. My flight lands at 9:00pm in the evening, and she says that they will be there with a CCS sign to pick me up. I think at least one other person will be on my flight.
She said that we will be 4 to a bedroom at the house, and there are bunk beds. Each bedroom has a bathroom, so we only have to share with us 4. Sunday and Monday will be Orientation, and we start our assignments on Tuesday.

I also got my placement. I will copy and paste the info I received:
SOWETO NURSERY
School- teaching children and assisting teachers
Volunteer Activities / Duties
·   Teach English and basic mathematics (counting, addition)
·   Teach games and songs (singing action songs are great: Hokey Pokey, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, etc)
·   Asses the development and progress of students (help create testing procedures)
·   Organize projects and activities for the children.
·   Work with the teacher to develop pre-school activities and materials that can be used for years to come (using creativity to create things with little supplies and modern equipment)
·   Participate in cultural exchange with the children and teacher
Useful Supplies
·   There are some supplies left over at the Home-Base for arts and crafts activities (crayons, paints, paper, glue, stickers, etc.)  Might want to consider other simple craft materials (macaroni necklaces, play doh, newspaper collages, etc)
·   As people will be very interested in learning about you and your life, please bring "Show and Tell" items. For example, photos of your family and things representative of your daily life are always appreciated.
·   Please begin brainstorming ideas for recreational activities / games / lessons for the students and children.
·   Simple educational worksheets for the students to fill in answers (ABCs, counting)
·   Pencils, chalk, erasers, etc to help make your activities go smoothly
·   Special materials* are welcome, but not required. In the past, volunteers have found the following materials useful at this placement:
Simple children's materials (i.e. games, books, cards, board and table games, puzzles, puppets, etc.).
Recreational materials (i.e. jump ropes, balls, Frisbees, bubbles, toys).
Cassette tapes or CDs with basic English alphabets, word pronunciation, and songs.
Magazines, brochures, and pieces of regalia in English to use as teaching tools

* If you are not sure if some special materials or supplies are appropriate to bring with you in-country, please review CCS' Gift Giving & Donations Policy (located in your Participant Handbook), or address your questions directly to your Program Manager.

Work Attire / Dress Code
·   Skirts below the knee for women and loose pants or khakis for men (No shorts or jeans)
·   Short sleeves or polo, knitted-type shirts (No thin-strapped/strapless tops).
·   Sturdy sandals, tennis shoes or sneakers
·   Clean clothing without stains, tears, or that drag on the ground.
·   Please be sure that all tattoos are covered.

* Please keep in mind that the way you groom and dress represents and indicates to the local people how people from your country generally dress for work.

Sounds good to me! Because of my preschool certification, they thought it would be best if I was placed in a school. I have already started purchasing some items, but I will buy most things over there. Thanks again to all of you for your generous donations!!!

Well, I have been sewing all day today and tomorrow I will put some more of my bags on Ebay. It's my last chance to make some more money for the trip!  So, I guess I should hit the hay now.
Only 10 more days!!!
