After checking into our dorm we met the legendary jungle guide Suleiman or "Slow-man" as he called himself, a guide for over 16 years he has since gone into semi-retirement and now runs a book exchange and offers advice on trips to take. He quickly befriended us and recommended the canopy walkway. As it was now too late to go out we decided that is what we would do the next day. We went down the the floating restaurants on the river and had some good food before walking out to the Woodland Resort, the only place in the area to serve beer. We sank a few cold ones and headed back for an early night.

Rising early the next day, we crossed the river in a water taxi and set off to the Canopy Walkway, enjoying the humidity and vibrancy of the jungle. After a couple of kilometers of fairly easy trekking we reached the walkway and climbed the tower to the first bridge. Assembled from heavy duty steel wire attached to aluminum ladders, topped with wooded planks the walkway had a tendency to sway violently at times. Four platforms and five bridges took us higher into the canopy before descending back to ground level. Here we had planned to climb a small hill to a view point but took a wrong turning and walked a further three kilometers before our male egos would allow us to admit defeat and turn back. This section of the track was a lot less easy walking with a lot of scrambling up and down rock scree, hauling ourselves up on ropes. Eventually we arrived back, somewhat knackered and headed for the swimming hole. Rapidly cooling us off this was a welcome end to our little adventure.

Back at the dorm we met a young French couple, Roman and Johana who joined us for an evening meal and some more beers at the hotel. When we returned to our room in the evening a Swiss guy called Steve had moved in and excitedly told us that he was going on a 2 day 1 night trip, staying in a Cave. It didn't appeal to me after our days hike but Roy seemed keen, so he got up early the next day and set out with 10 others for the trip. I went back to the swimming hole after breakfast with Roman and Johana, where we bumped into Aussie Steve who had picked up an entourage of French guys and girls and we spent the day swimming before heading back for a meal together.
