Poor Hils and Vinnie didn't get a wink of sleep in their tent and the camper van was rocking from side to side, making we wonder if it would tip over. Not funny! The worst night of the trip so far, apart that is from the first night Hils was with us when we had a tremendous storm and, again, howling gales. And of course there was that night that Vinnie and I slept in the park which had been 12" under flood water the night before, stranded with no petrol and no way of getting any, and........ OK I guess when I look back it probably wasn't the worse night, it just seemed like it at the time
By the way, referring to the floods. Yesterday we heard on the radio that Hay, the first stop we made after that night in the park, was under threat of flooding again yesterday. They were expecting the levi to burst. The flood was then going to make it's way along the Murray to what had been our next stop Mildura. They did say they would be under water within 2 weeks and that's just about what is happening. And so the torrent makes it way down stream to the sea, causing havoc along the way.
Today we were going to make another overnight stop on the way to Melbourne, but thought "to hell with that" and hightailed it straight to the city where we hired a chalet for the night. Well, Hils and Vinnie have the chalet, at least they can get a good night's sleep. I'm OK in the sleeper van.
So, tomorrow we will see the delights that Melbourne has to offer. Hils and Vinnie are going to live here so I guess they will want to see the house share they have arranged and maybe make preliminary arrangements to move in. They also have many friends in the city, including one a head chef who has offered to feed us tomorrow night and on Saturday evening we have arranged to have dinner with two of the Aussies (Ross & Jono) from the Oz-Bus trip last year. Onward and upward.
