After we said our sad goodbyes to Georgina and the girls at Sydney airport we went to pick up our camper van. And I must say that it was not a shining example of how a camper van should be.  In fact it was dreadful.  We complained, but the company we collected it from were only agents of the rental company.  We rang the rental company but they refused to refund our money which they shouldn't have taken from the credit card until we collected the vehicle anyway.  I think we are dealing with charlatan's.  So we are now involved in a dispute to get our money refunded.  I've been here before!

In the meantime we had no option but to rent another more suitable camper van and off we set for our first stop which was Killalea National Park near Shellharbour south of Sydney.  We had a satisfactory night and next day set off for Canberra via the Highlands.  Very high, very wet.  We stopped off to look at a waterfall and plowed on towards Canberra.  The weather got wetter and wetter, the day was getting late and it was evident that camping was out of the question so we checked into a motel.
The next day was no better.  We checked into another motel and visited the Renaissance Exhibition at the museum and then did a guided tour of the Parliament.  Parliament was in session so we sat and listened to the same drivel they talk in Westminster.  It was still raining when we left.

This morning they were giving flood warnings, evacuating communities and closing roads so we thought that it was time to make our excuses and leave.  Unfortunately the rain is pretty wide spread and expected to remain so for the next few days. We had to drive all day until we were again north of Sydney to get out of it.

So here we are in a place called Cardiff, near Newcastle, New South Wales where the weather is unbearable hot and sticky again, staying overnight in an apartment.  But, to look on the bright side, it does have good facilities and a washing maching so we can get all our clothes laundered before we attempt the camping game again tomorrow!  And Vinnie is at last going to cook a stir fry he planned for 2 days ago.

Do you know, I have de ja vu. If I'm not deluded (and many would say, correctly, that I am) I have written about the trouble with the camper van before.  What happened to that post, did anyone see where it went?

I'm mystified. Why d you go by camper van? Why not your usual 5-star htels?

Too bad about the weather. I never realised they had rain in Oz.

I read your blog which covered some of this one - your de ja vu bit - but when I went back to see it, it wasn't there any more! "Curioser and curioser"
