How many Kms in 42 miles?
Apr 15, 2010
We drove from Uncle Terry's at Cape Jaffa through Kingston, where we stopped for a photo with the Big Lobster, and a meat pie (which Joel got everywhere!). On Terry's suggestion we dropped in at 45 mile crossing on the Coorong. A small campground with drop toilets and not much else. But since it was just out of fire danger season we were able to have our first campfire! We also went 4WDing along the beach with another couple who were camping. Our plan was to go all the way up the beach to the mouth of the murry river, but a 200km round trip on sand going at about 40km p/h and with the tide coming in, made us decide to turn around! Driving back off the beach we drove up some amazingly pristine sand dunes, and stopped to get many photos! To get back onto the main road we crossed at Tea Tree crossing. This involved a long water crossing of water that is extremely salty. Thankfully the water was fairly low, and if we crawled across it very slowly the salt water didn't touch under the car. The following day Joel's mate Porter (who is also travelling) stopped by and we drove up the beach again, this time at 10.30pm at night - much more scary! We couldn't believe On the way back on the dirt track we were seriously one foot away from hitting the biggest kangaroo I have ever seen!
