Well, after a rough, slow start (we got as far as Wonga Park before the car broke down) we eventually reached our first destination, Nhill. A little country town, not far from Horsham, where both of Joel's grandmas live. We haven't done too much up here apart from eat well (gotta love grandma's cooking) and work on the van. At the moment Nhill has two plagues - one of locusts and one of mice! Neither are very nice. Saturday night we hit the local pubs (yes there are 3 in this very small town) with Joel's cousin. A good night, followed by a short walk home (no 50min or $50 cab fare after a night out here). And I can add to my ever expanding list of things that I can beat Joel at. After loosing the whole match, I romped it home, potting 3 balls in a row to beat Joel at pool. Yesterday we spent the afternoon heading down the road to the Big Desert. It is big, and it is deserted, but it didn't really look like a desert to me. There is sand on the 4WD track but the surrounds looked more like bushland. We were circled for a good 5 minutes by a gorgeous hawk, with beautiful light brown colouring, and eventually had a fire and picnic in the middle of the desert. Our first real adventure got more adventurous after that when Joel let me drive home. He was very patient with this being my first time driving on a 4WD track. I was doing extremely well, until we approached a slight hill with some extra soft sand. Needless to say I dug the back tyres in and was not moving very far in either direction. Joel took over, and after putting the car in 4WD (yes, we were driving on a 4WD track in 2WD - Joel - "I just wanted to test out what it could do") we climbed out easily and made it home without further incident, apart from stopping to watch the beautiful sunset. Which I would upload photos of, but I forgot to take the camera - a newbie travellers mistake which I won't make again. We are both looking forward to the rest of our trip and arriving at some beautiful destinations
