Recife - Staat in Pernambucu

Recife means "Reef" and it saved the city for attacks from the seaside.
Recife is the capital of Pernambuco and it contains 1,4 Million people. The original Name of this City was "Moritzburg", because Moritz von Nassau founded this city. (MarcoPolo Brasilien, 7. Auflage 2003)

We arrived very tired the Guararapes Airport at 2am in Recife and we didn`t know where to sleep.
So Melih went directly to the tourist information and asked at first for maps of the city and then for the best place to sleep at the airport.

A nice place to sleep

I was surprised because she offered us a place in a shop. In a bookstore. ;)
So we searched for this shop with the best sofa, entered and said just Bom Dia. We put our bags there and started to sleep for 5 hours.

All people very going around us for searching and buying books and magazines. It was really funny. And I had a strange feeling, because normally it isn`t allowed to sleep in a shop ...

To find a good place for breakfast in the morning was not so easy, because they have only these stupid expensive fast food restaurants. And I don`t like to eat this fatty food in the morning. But we decided to eat a small sandwich ... I was too hungry.

Where to go?

We took a bus just in the parallel street in the direction of the center.
The first destination was the Casa Ida Cultura.

I had no plan where we will go. I just followed Melih and he is a perfect guide. We took a bus near the airport to Boa Viagem (Citypart).
Melih was asking in the bus where a good hostel is and a nice woman with small kids told as where to go. In fact she changed her plans and told us that she will bring us to the hostel. The people are to friendly and they really try to help.
She spook perfect English and this is a real wonder, the most people don`t speak English at all.
She also told us where we should go in Recife and where not. She is a perfect woman and she is working for a social organization. That`s why she brought the kids to a swimming hall. She is responsible for them.

The hostel looked from the outside not very good, but if you enter it there is a big nice tropical garden.
Melih had some typical Turkish gifts. This is a blue glass stone with a eye. This should protect you for bad things and I believe that it works ;)
He gave this to the woman and the girls.

The Name of the Hostel was Boa Viagem and it is relative cheap, with good rooms, good food and internet. And it is near to the center and the beach Boa Viagem.
But a problem for me was the money. I had only my VISA Card with me and only some Reais cash and the hostel doesn`t accept VISA Cards :~

So what to do? Melih said he will pay for the pousada and I should pay as much as I can with my VISA Card.

By the way we saw some signs there with a warning for Sharks ... Nice ... I will not go swimming there.

Discovering Recife

This is the offical Website of Recife

Our first destination was the Casa da Cultura. It was a prison but now it is a center of culture. In the small cells are small shops and there is music everywhere. It is located in the Rua Floriano Peixoto, s/n. Santo Antonio. It is open from Monday to Saturday 9 am to 7 pm and on Sunday from 2 to 7 pm.

We walked through the city and passed also the Rua Aurora. This is a street with some colored houses, but I wasn`t impressed, because I live in Ouro Preto and there are more than five colored houses ;)

This was the first city we visit in the northeast and we have heared that it is more dangerous as Belo Horizonte. So I didn`t take my camera with me and only Melih took some pictures.

The city was very crowded and also a bit dirty. We didn`t feel very save there. We walked a bit more through the city and passed a nice praša and a church. But we get bored fastly and we decided to go to Olinda.

When We arrived back in Recife we went to the beautiful beach Boa Viagem and walked and watched the ocean, drank a suco.
