JWe are staying in Kristen and Steve's home in Eastport Maine. The house was built in 1807 and our bedroom windows allow the sun to shine brightly on us as we awake in the eastern most part of the whole United States.  Did I say sun?  Yesterday when we drove across the state of Maine to get here it was pelting down hideous rain on our campervan and it did not stop raining for at least 24 hours.  I had to question the logic of driving almost 5,000 miles from California to get here but today the sun has given me the answer.  Eastport is a darling quaint lovely idealic place when the sun shines on all the old weather-beaten cedar shingled houses  and the water sparkles like a million diamond rings bobbing between the US and Canada.  We dried off our Trek bicycles and took a bike ride through the town.  There are many houses for sale under $100,000 and it is tempting to buy one and stay here forever.  But then, I heard they have winter for nine months of the year in Maine, so maybe not.  Right now the wildflowers are blooming everywhere and the air smells salty and feels refreshing.  If you think I am kidding about the sun shining (after bundling up in 50 degree wet weather for three days) I put on a swimming suit and swam in Keen Lake today! People in Maine think I am tan, but since leaving California on June 11th I have been fading fast.

I am so happy that we finally arrived at our final destination.  Tonight we are celebrating with our friends.  We will be cooking up a feast of lobster, scallops, clams, and haddock!  All of this, enough to feed seven people, cost $50.00 at the fish market.  Maybe I will stay in Maine forever!  Randi
