Where I stayed
There are many of these beautiful provincial parks along the rim of Lake Superior. We drive and drive and then stop for picnics and hikes. I have never seen so many waterfalls and rivers in my life. Rainbow Falls was a special treat with pink granite rocks and wild orchids. Our little camper van is getting us surely but slowly along the way. I don't know if we will ever make it to Maine. I don’t know if the mosquitoes will eat us alive. Thank God for Deep Woods/ OFF repellent. It lasts at least five minutes so you can sit by the lake, drink a glass of red wine, and watch the clouds reflected in the still surface of the lake at night. It stays light until 10:30 p.m. and the loons call to us.
You know you are a long way from California when you have run out of Peets Coffee, use up the Caribou Coffee and there is nothing but Folgers on the shelves of the grocery store in WAWA. Yes, that is the name of the closest town and no they do not have cell phone service or internet. It has been two days since I saw any bars on my cell phone and speaking of bars, they hide the liquor in Canada.
Then we made it to Barrie, Ontario (just north of Toronto) and decided to stay at a Best Western, have a good bed, internet and do laundry. The last two days we did not have cell phone reception. We saw phone booths at funny place we stopped and asked if they had internet, they responded "yes, $3 for 3 minutes of dial-up. They also had stuffed wolves and bears for sale so go figure. Tomorrow (July 4) we are going to Niagra Falls-on the Canada side and hope to take the Maid of the Mist under the falls. Nels
