Where I stayed
We settled in at a KOA in the middle of the state and just spent 3 days roaming around the area. We pretty much stuck with the White Mountains area (highest elevation 6,288 feet, Mt Washington, which doesn't sound like much compared to out West but keep in mind the valley elevation is near sea level in this area so that mountain is pretty darn impressive). Our timing could not have been better.
On one of our drives we stopped in the town of Conway and took a train ride. Honey was like a little boy when he saw a steam engine heading into the station. He was quickly disappointed when he found out it was not our tour. We had a plain ole diesel locomotive. It was not the best route through the area that we could have gone on (in hindsight) but I did get a few fun pictures from it. I also enjoyed the old rail car that we were on
We stopped at a nice Restaurant/Pub that evening in the ski town of Lincoln. I had no idea New Hampshire has so many ski resorts, but they really do, it’s quite the industry here. Anyhow, The Common Man was the name of the pub and it had a great rustic décor, grand stone fireplace, lounging couches for sitting with a drink/food. Reminded me of home. I ordered the Mac n Cheese pizza…had to try it right!?! It was…just okay. Honey and I have talked about only dining at non-chain type establishments while on this trip…and trying new stuff (no cheeseburger and fries for him lol). When we were in Vermont we had Poutine which was fries covered with gravy with cheese curds on top. Honey LOVED it....I counted each calorie with every bite!!
Another one of our drives included the Mount Washington Hotel. Check out my pics of this place. I thought it was amazing. Built in 1901, it only took 18 months to build it, which is mind-boggling
Uh oh: None!!
Oh yeah, make sure you look at all my pics…there is one of me and a moose (finally!!)
P.S. We were called a name by the locals and almost took offense……we were called "leaf peepers"! All I know is there are a lot of us leaf peepers pumping some cold hard cash into their economy in these here parts!
It was a perfect time spent in New Hampshire. This leaf peeper will miss the stunning autumn colors in full glory. I’m afraid fall may never be the same for us!!
Next stop…. Maine!!!!!….and Lobsta….and the Coast…and Lobsta
