On Saturday night Matt took me to Tao Restaurant (http://taorestaurant.com/) in Manhattan. The food was delicious and we almost rolled out of there! Luckily Matt had planned for us to go for a stroll to look at the Christmas tree and the ice-skating rink at the Rockefeller Center. We also saw some window displays at Saks and the Lego store. There were thousands of people around – it’s a bit of a NY tradition to go and look at the tree!
On Sunday morning Matt took me to Fonda Comida Mexicana in Brooklyn for a Mexican birthday breakfast – very yummy! It’s walking distance from home – not sure if it’s a good thing… Later we headed out to go and explore in Manhattan. First we stopped at the Union Square Christmas Market. Unfortunately it was a very rainy day, so after having a quick look around and warming up with a warm apple cider we headed off to the Serendipity café (the same as the one from the movie). Unfortunately it was a 2 hour wait so we went to the Plaza Hotel lobby instead where we indulged in some birthday cake! Matt had planned a whole bunch of exciting things to do in Central Park, but unfortunately the rain ended those plans. Matt had found a pho (Asian beef soup) restaurant online so we headed off to try it out. Not as good as Pho 264 in Melbourne, but not bad! After that we went to the Jazz Standard where Matt had booked two tickets to watch some jazz. The long day, warmth, dark and red wine had us feeling sleepy far too early and we ended up heading home quite early.
This week I have continued my new love affair with Internet shopping – it’s definitely much easier having things delivered for free rather than lugging it around yourself! Vacuum, steam mop, electric toothbrush, iron, pet supplies – thanks Walmart! Matt and I found some great couches but when we got home and measured the doorways we realised they won’t fit – so back to the drawing board… I made it to my second gym class yesterday and am suffering the effects today! I hate having to start from scratch again – maybe Matt and I will get fit enough to do the Brooklyn marathon next year! Not sure we’ll be ready for the NY one yet!
My website will also hopefully be online soon. I’ve been spending lots of time ordering mailing tubes and supplies for incoming orders (positive thinking J). I can’t believe how expensive it is to send packages overseas using UPS, FEDEX, etc – sometimes more than the cost of the print itself, and it’s only a tube that weighs less than 0.5kg! So far the best option is the US post, but that’s still about $40 per order. So if anyone knows of some better options please let me know!
Matt's starting work on a project for an Israeli pharmaceutical company – he’s a bit bemused by the fact that we move all the way to the US only to get posted to Israel! He won’t be there all the time, but hopefully I’ll be able to go across with him once to explore a bit.
I invested in some gumboots yesterday as my boots were getting ruined at the park! Lulu's been wading into the middle of each mud puddle she can find and will need a bath this weekend! She was a bit surprised when the puddles were iced over yesterday - but I was happy as frozen mud= cleaner paws! I walked past a really cool mosaic house yesterday. My photos aren't great as it was quite dark already but you can check it out here - http://susangardner.com/page3.html#
Otherwise the animals have been providing us with plenty of love and laughs. Hope everyone has a relaxing and merry Christmas and all the best for 2013 if I don’t get a chance to post another entry before then!
