Had a very funny coincidence at Sao Paulo airport - just as I left the internet cafe I was wandering around (had a few hours yet before the flight) and met my Danish guest, Matthias, who was catching a plane to Foz do Iguacu. We sat down, talked a bit about his travels and my plans, had a beer, and thankfully, time went by much faster and soon I was in the plane to Amsterdam, which did not seem to take too long (even though it did).
I then took a train to the Centraal Station, left my luggage there (the backpack did show up, after all!) and by 13h was walking around the center aimlessly, just looking around and taking random pictures - there is nothing like walking around with no destination in a completely unknown (and very beautiful) city. The weather was gray, but I didn't mind it at all.
Then, at about 19h, I went to my host's place, took a shower (the first in the last 30 hours or so), we talked a bit, he cooked dinner for me and he told me he was studying to be a massagist and wanted to get all the practice he could, so wanted to practice on me. I knew beforehand he was a massagist and knew that he was gay (and when he told me that by e-mail I also took the opportunity to let him know I was not gay). I at first wanted to refuse it, but on second thought didn't have any reason to do so other than his being gay, and didn't want to take any actions based solely on prejudice (especially not when the guy was hosting me), so I allowed it. That proved to be a mistake, as he took the opportunity to try to put his hand inside my pants, which was obviously most unwelcome. So I told him to stop, got up from the massage table, he apologized and all and since it was late and I had a separate room I decided to stay there for the night (he didn't try anything else). He even left a key to his appartment with me, so I am willing to think he was just seriously misguided, rather than ill-intentioned. Still, that was pretty inexcusable behaviour, and now I have the problem of deciding how to write my comment about him in the hospitality club... I might show it to him before posting, though, so he gets a last chance to defend himself.
Anyway, the next morning I left and, since I would have to sleep in a hotel, I thought it would be better to just take the night train to KÝbenhavn, so I bought my tickets. Then I called my would-be host in Turku, Elisa, who was in Amsterdam and we spent a very nice afternoon together. Then I went to the station and, as my ticket didn't have the platform information, I asked a guy who worked there. When I got to the appointed platform, though, the train was leaving for Brussels (which was the wrong way) and I found out the right platform just on time to wave my train goodbye... The next train was only next morning, so I had to buy another ticket and find me a hotel, which was not that easy (especially under the sudden heavy rain), but it all went out fine in the end. I'm already in KÝbenhavn now, but the news will come at a later date.
All in all, I still liked Amsterdam (had no time for the museums, though - maybe when I come back). Must endure the presence of two or three caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies...
