So as I moved from Bern to Cuarny to Neuchatel to Basel, the clouds started to be dispelled and I began touching the ground again, which also means I have started enjoying myself much more. Basel was my favorite in Switzerland, especially the drinks we had by the Rhein while waiting for a very late sunset. Also I had quite an excellent host there - Laura. She was knew to CS, and it is always great to stay with new people, as they tend to be exceedingly kind and that is good not only directly, but also because it softens me up, reminds me of how well I treated (or tried to) my first few guests and hosts, and makes me want to meet the same standards again.
The clouds are less dense now, but dreamy things still keep happening. Just as I met Laura in Basel, I went out to help her carry a stepladder she had borrowed to a garden she owns in the city, then the next afternoon we went there to pick cherries from her cherry tree. We tried to cycle there, but I didn't have much success, so for a good part of the way we just walked, carrying the bikes along.
The next morning I flew to not-Stockholm, which is a town actually one hour and a half from the capital, where I spent one day alone and another with Marjaana, who was working there. She is a Finnish girl who was my guest in Rio some three months ago. It already feels strange enough (in a good way) to meet a former guest so far from my country, but much more so when said guest, after we share a great day in the city, hosts me in the Finnish church, where she was working and staying. And then even more when we are locked in, because after 22h you can't get in or out without sounding the alarm. And stranger again when the church is right in front of the king's palace and from the window we can watch the guards wearing extremely funny hats doing their toy-soldier march.
On my third day in the city, we walked around a bit, had lunch together, then she took the bus to a close-by island where she would work for the rest of the week, while I took the boat to Helsinki, my main destination and so far only concrete plan for this trip.
We are past midsummer now, it is great to watch the sun take a really long time to set, only to come up again after a very short time. The weather is not very summery though, there has been much rain and, while it is reasonably warm under the sun, it can be very cold when the sun is hiding, or in the shade. Some spring still lingers.
