It took us 8.5hrs to finally arrive home. Wow what an epic adventure. Definitely not a holiday we were busy everyday seeing & experiencing a different thing.
Our top five favourite places were (in no particular order). Wilpena Pound for all the wildlife & beautiful scenery, Kings Canyon breathtaking view from one spot to the next, around every corner even tho we had to work hard up the big hill to get there, Great Keppel Island, white sandy beaches, coral & beautiful fish, Redbank Gorge huge red towering cliffs. After a big walk stumbling over rocks & boulders you just got there & were mesmerized by the view. Menindee Lakes, fantastic peaceful spot & the most gorgeous sunsets over the water each night.
Things I took but shouldn't off was the hot water system we thought we would need to shower at some of the free sites but found other ways to get clean. Wool Shed at Menindee & good old baby wipes did wonders for one night. And the antenna for the TV all we did was bring it in & out each night but never actually sat down long enough to watch TV.
In hindsight we probably shouldn't of driven on the Mereenie Loop Road 205km dirt road with fairly bad corrugations this road shook our poor little van to pieces. Well a lot of the screws in the van worked their way loose. Plus we had already driven 160km to Menindee Lakes along a corrugated dirt road. But it was definitely worth the experience of it.
It was great spending so much time with my parents & my family.
Being in a small van & a lot of early mornings & long days certainly had its toll on you, everyone had a cranky time but you soon get over things as your venturing out sightseeing.
