Yeppoon Day 31

We were awoken bright & early by the local birds as the sun was rising at 5.30am. Another early pack up & leave day. We have this all down pat now & the caravan was left hooked up yesterday so a lot less work this morning.

Two local lorikeets farewelled us, they just sat in the chair next to us then hopped on Jays hand & ate biscuits from him.

We were on the road by 7am again but headed back into Emerald 1st to take a picture of the great metal signs with Emerald at each entrance. Then headed towards the Big easel a replica painting of Van Goughs Sunflowers. The largest easel painting in the world. Another "Big Thing" photo to add to my collection. They also had a great tiled pictured footpath around the oval with Emerald's history.

Our next stop off was Blackwater. A coal mining town. They had a very beautiful Japanese garden next to the Coal Mining International Centre but it was closed. Up the road as we drove past they were filling a large train with coal via a huge bridge across the road onto the train.

We spotted some Boab trees & some bottle trees on farmland near the road. We went through a lot of small farming towns.

We hit Rockhampton at about 11am. This is a beautiful town with gorgeous landscaped gardens in the centre of all the major roads, Yellow daisies, red hedged bushes & palm trees. Another "Big Thing" greets you as you enter town a large bull with Rockhampton written underneath. There was another 6 big bulls I managed to take 4 as we drove past. Nowhere to stop with the caravan in tow.

We hit some major roadwork's on the way to Yeppoon but it didn't hold us up too much.

We finally spotted the ocean & what a sight for weary travellers who have seen no water for 4 weeks. We are definitely Water dwellers not Land lubbers in this household. Even though I loved the outback we needed to see lush green trees, grass & WATER.

We finally arrived at our "Oasis" caravan park, at 12.30pm.The kids eyes lit up when they spotted the huge waterslide then the jumping castle. As soon as the car pulled up & caravan in place the kids were off to the pool. I unfortunately had the dismal task of washing clothes & setting up the caravan. But such beautiful surrounds to do my home duties at.

The afternoon was spent by 1st watching the kids in the pool, doing tricks on the jumping pillow & then the waterslide was opened so had specific instructions how I was to take the photographs of them sliding down the slide.

I hung out the washing & spotted 2 very cute still birds in the bushes. I think more road runners.

After boring duties done & dusted we headed off into the township of Yeppoon to buy some goggles for tomorrow & a new memory card for me. Also some more food for a picnic on Great Keppel Island tomorrow.

We had a New Zealand ice-cream watching over the water. I had a nice old gentleman come sit & talk to me about my camera & as he was a local I asked him about the island & he went into far too much detail about the history of the island but he was very nice.

We  explored around the beaches & the marina. Jay has now gone fishing whilst the kids hired
a bike cart & are riding them around the park for 30min.

Jay caught a 25cm flat head, he was only fishing for about an hour.

Just have to tell you how brilliant it feels sitting outside the caravan relaxing with a great cool breeze blowing over us. The 1st time in weeks I haven't been boiling hot. We're all going to sleep well tonight & yeeha we get to sleep in till 8am tomorrow morning the ferry to Great Keppel Island doesn't leave till 10.30am.

Well now I know what the park has to offer in the way of slides etc. Would you believe I haven't even seen them up close. Must investigate tomorrow!!
