Another 7am leave time. Lots more Kilometres to cover. Not much around here. We saw a lot of Termite mounds on steroids. Some were huge like little African Huts. Very wide & tall. Apart from that same sort of bushes & scenery.
Another energy sapping hot day close to 40o again.
We arrived over the Queensland border at approximately 9am. A lot of road work on the road so had to travel over a pretty rough gravel road for many kilometres. At around 10am we came through the town of Camooweal. We stopped off at the BP & filled with fuel, had a bite to eat of hamburgers for Jay & Braiden
After this town heaps of open land with a few trees in the distance & cattle. A few dams with only dirt surrounding with cattle drinking from apart from that nothing.
We arrived at Mount Isa at 2pm. We’re staying at the Top Tourist park & the new managers are extremely friendly & helpful guiding us into our site. After we set up we just vegged till 4.45pm. It’s another extremely hot day.
We headed out to Lake Moondarra. An oasis in the middle of dry country. This is a huge well cared for dam. Many birds swimming on the water. Red & blue dragon flies flitting around. Jay & the kids had a quick dip in the cool water, then we headed up to the top lookout. This dam is huge. Down behind the dam was our next location. This area is well maintained, had peacocks & peahens all around. A couple of peacocks showing off displaying their spectacular feathers trying to attract the peahens. They didn’t seem to keen though
We then took a photo of the Miner & then headed to the top lookout overlooking the town of Mount Isa just after the sun set. It was great seeing all the lights & mining equipment from this lookout.
The great thing about travelling this way is we have decided instead of going outback QLD home we are now heading for the coast & Rockhampton, to get to cooler temperatures. Have been in the 40s for the past week & travelling many kilometres leaving early & touring all afternoon has had a toll on us we are exhausted. So need more of a relaxing cooling trip home for the next 10 days. One of the reasons today's blog is short & sweet I'm hot & extremely tired but still have to do all the house chores before I can retire for the night.
