Up bright & early again today, just as the sun was rising in front of our caravans a lovely pinkie orange sunrise. A few photos. Then it was pack up time again. Our caravan was already hooked up so it was a lot quicker.
The friendly dingo came & sat beside our caravan laying down waiting for us to leave so he could scavenge for any scraps we may of left behind. He will be very disappointed though.
We were on the road at 7am again this morning. Another fantastic natural attraction behind us.
Just as we left a huge wide load came past us going the opposite direction, we had to get well & truly off the road as it took up both sides
The Stuart highway is long, straight & so very boring. The same sort of trees, shrubs. A few hawks flew through the air above us. Termite mounds breaking up the flat area, looking like tiny cities, apart from that not much just drive, drive & drive. (well Jay drove while I dozed on & off)
We hit the town of Tennant Creek at 8.45am. Drove through it turned around & drove back again. Not a large town. Everything was still closed when we drove through we found a cafe open so had a lovely bacon & egg sandwich with a chocolate milkshake which was on the turn a slightly sour taste to it. Took a few photos of the pub & went to the newsagency/souvenir/chemist shop & bought a few things. Then it was onward bound again.
After this stop there was nothing just kilometre upon kilometre of long straight road. We had many rest stops as it was so monotones it would of been easy to fall asleep at the wheel.
We past a very sad sight of a car towing a trailer with the whole front end & window smashed on his ute & a bull on the other side of the road (not moving)
We arrived at an oasis in the middle of nowhere called the Barkley Homestead. At least 10 Hawks flying overhead. Lovely shady trees & lots of other bird life. This is where we are spending the night before we hit QLD tomorrow.
Clean amenities, pool & shady drive thru powered caravan sites.
A huge moth the size of a bread plate was near our caravan freaking out Annabel. Hopefully they don’t come out in force tonight. Its rest time & having tea in the cafe tonight. Everyone is having a cool off swim while I type up my blogs.
Tea was fantastic. Jay & Braiden had T-Bone steaks with chips, gravy & salad, Bella had lamb loin chops with chips & salad & I had the chicken schnitzel.
