A walk around Budapest
Entry 26 of 37 | show all | print this entry |
Today we decided to do a walking tour of Budapest 3000 Huf normally 4000 but 500 discount if you are student and 500 if you show brochure.
We meet out guide at the square on the church steps - who was from Budapest and spoke perfect English. I have decided when i can i will do a walking tour as it is so informative and relaxed you can ask questions at any times.
From the church we took the metro to St Hero's square, the art gallery currently showing Van Goths work, we took the Metro back to the park where we saw the ice skating area, although no ice at the moment due to spring, a mock castle to replica one that was in Romania as this is where the king at the time was from, the thermal baths, we were shown around the Jewish quarters and given an explanation about what happened to the Jews during WW11, then we saw St Stephens square and the opera house. We then are taken to the main shopping street - did you know that Hungarians invented the Hologram and the Biro and discovered Vitiam C. This is all in the area of Pest - Pest is completely flat - we cross the Danube over to Buda and the first thing you can notice is the hills and the castle - we walked up the steps to the castle {which now holds museums and had to be restored after WW11}
Overall the walking tour took 3,5hrs and my feet were killing me but enjoyed every minute.
Tomorrow we are off to Prague on a 6hr train trip - 6hr trip can not wait oh and we have not been able to secure accommodation even better.

Tiring! (reply) Apr 1, 2007 18:36 EST by janniee42
Great to hear from you but all the walking sounds very tiring. Glad you are in hostels now and not camping must be a lot more snug for you. All the history sounds incredible and interesting to find out how things evolve. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon. Ahh sore feet ( I can relate that )
Keep having fun .
Love Janet xxxx
