Ze do Peixe Assado

so i talked to my dad the other day, and he says "oh, you're in the Algarve? you gotta go to my favorite restaurant in Europe." coming from the master chef himself, that's advice that i can't pass up. "it's in Albufeira, a coastal town. it's called Ze do Peixe Assado (Joe's Fish Grill). freshest seafood i've ever had. go there, dinner's on us." i´ve never been one to pass up free food, and in this particular case, it's free fresh seafood. so we figure out a bus from Lagos to Albufeira, no idea if there's a hostel in the area, and just get off the bus at the busiest intersection. within 30 seconds, an old lady, as tall as she is round waddles up to us and says "something something something quartos?" si! we negotiate a price and follow her through a construction site to her guest apartment, smells like all Portuguese apartments, where she offers us two rooms. one with a queen sized bed or one with a queen and a twin. we take the room with two beds... obviously. but then she asks if we're going to use both beds, or just one. too funny. all we had eaten so far that day was some bread and a banana, because we're pumped for this amazing meal. grab a cab to the restaurant, we're there, all dressed-up (a collared shirt anyway) and wouldn't you guess it... CLOSED! aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh... thought i was going to cry. we book it to the market, buy sandwich goods and devour them on the street. with little else going on in Albufeira that night, we also purchased some wine (2 Euros a bottle, why not?) and enjoyed the sunset at the beach. maybe the old lady had us pegged correctly? hahah.

What up, broner? (reply) Apr 19, 2006 16:41 EST by hansel
I pictured you, upon arrival at the restaurant, slowly walking up to the building, resting your head against the bricks, and proceeding to punch the wall repeatedly shouting 'why?! why?! why?!,' like Dinero in Raging Bull.
Don't be discouraged, man. Just remember that my version of a GOOD day is when my boss doesn't come into the office and i don't have to shave in the morning...
