What I did
Lok Kawi Wildlife Park
We didn't know what we was doing in Sarawak, we had a few ideas and looking around found out they were really expensive!
Diving at Sipidan Island was double the normal price of diving and you might not even be able to dive there (limited to 150 divers a day including Dive Masters).
Climbing Mount Kinabalu (which I really wanted to do) was £250 each! For 1 night on the mountain.
Staying on Turtle Island for 1 night to see turtles lay eggs, £150 each and your not guaranteed to see it.
So we decided to just see it out till we flew to the Philippines in 10 days, as we wanted to do some diving there we wanted to save a little bit of money here. We still done some stuff, and this is the jist of it.
We didn't know where Dean and Stacey where staying as they had flew here the day before, the nice lady at our hostel took their names and rung around for half hour trying to find them. We did have their e-mail but didn't know if it was right or if they had internet so we didn't see them untill the 3rd day.
Chilled out, when down the waterfront which was a nice walk. We saw all the fishermen setting up their stalls ready for the night and was told it was good food so decided to give it a go. We got a seat at one of the numerous stalls and ordered noodles and drinks then the lady took us over to a fish stall so we could pick for a BBQ. We got mugged off. We wanted some crab as it looked nice and Elle asked for some prawns, the guy said something about a king prawn but we weren't too sure as they were showing us prices by weight.
We got some huge prawn and a crab we didnt know where to start eating. It came to £25 which is about 3 days food for us!
We went down the beach a couple of the days, weren't all that... think I miss Thailand too much to like other beaches. It was pretty dirty, seems like they don't take care of it that much. Elle went in the water, I didn't want a jonny floating in my mouth so I stayed out.
When we started hanging with Dean and Stacey we decided to go white water rafting! Sounds good aye, we booked it with the hotel that the guys were staying with and we was meant to be doing the 3-4 level river which is meant to be good. You have to go about an hour out of the city then on an old train for 45 mins which looked good in itself. The train sometimes has problems with bad weather and it can be cancelled but it didn't rain the night before so it was looking good.
We got in the minibus and drove for about 45 mins picking up another couple along the way, when all of a sudden our guide gets a phone call.... We stop by the side of the road for 10 minutes then the guide comes and tells us that there was strong winds that blew trees onto the train tracks the night before. Bummer, we are told that we could chance the next day or go to a smaller river for a discounted price
It was good with a couple of small rapids, I was the only one to nearly fall out but Elle saved me.... I told her off as I wanted to fall out thinking it might be fun.
With Dean and Stacey gone we had to find more things to do, we read up on a wildlife sanctuary which sounded pretty good, but boy was we wrong.
The place was a bit of a shambles with poor animals in small enclosures going crazy, we watched the feedings but it didn't really feel right so we couldn't enjoy it that much.
So a couple of days of bumming about, going to the cinema...twice, eating a DOUBLE ZINGER! Yea that's right 2 zinger burgers in 1 bun... no hashbrown though a slice of pineapple instead which was pants. It was time for us to leave Borneo, Dean and Stacey were back and we were catching the same flight to Manila which was good.
Can't wait for cheap beer.
