Where I stayed
So in Malaysia in the sleepy town of Pedang Besar, or maybe that's on the Thailand side.. not too sure. We were looking for a taxi to get us down to Penang Island, as that's where we had looked at accommodation and looked like a cool place. Walking past a dodgy bloke hiding in the shadows whispering to us 'taxi', I said no thanks and we walked up to a 7/11 and asked in there if they knew a taxi driver we could trust, seeing as it was dark and where we wanted to go was a good 1-1/2 hours away we wanted someone trustworthy.
The girls in the shop rung someone for us and he could speak English so gave me the phone, he said that he would be another 2 hours then he would pick us up and take us. That meant that we would get there at about 11.30 which would have been too late as we needed to find somewhere to stay. I asked him if he knew anyone that could take us sooner and he said to ring him back in 15 mins
Whilst all this was happening, there was a lad standing there having an iced coffee from the 7/11 and he asked the girls what was up. They explained what our predicament was and he said the best option for us was to go to the nearest biggish town, sleep there and get the bus in the morning. We agreed and asked how to get there and he said that he was going to meet a friend there and could give us a lift, we didn't want to hang about any longer so took him up on his offer as he didn't look dodgy, spoke pretty good English and had a Man U shirt on.
Off we went, it was about half hour away, gave Lauren the name he had on his name tag that was hanging from the interior mirror and told her where we was going. If we hadn't contacted her in 45 mins to release a search party!!
We got stopped at a military checkpoint as it wasn't a taxi it looked pretty dodgy I suppose, he explained what he was doing and we showed our passports then it was all fine. We got to Changlun and Billy tried getting a discount at a hotel for us, it was like a Travel Lodge but was pretty cheap so weren't too bothered about the discount. I tried to give him some money for taking us and he wouldn't except it, top fella... after all that worrying we wasn't murdered and he was a nice bloke
Stayed there for a night, they had a dvd player so we could watch one of our DVDs that we bought in Bangkok as they don't seem to work on the laptop.
For some reason we decided to skip Penang Island as we 'had' to get to KL, I don't know why we 'had' to... it just felt like where we had lost a day we had to skip it. Wish we hadn't now.
Nice coach ride down to Kuala Lumper, we got there and started looking about getting some accommodation. Bad start in getting off at the first stop of 3 for KL, we was right on the other side of the city.
First taste of Monorail systems which were cool and efficient, we got to where we had to be and started looking round. This is where the room prices started to rise, not in the land of £6 beach huts anymore!! After a few visits we decided on Tropical Guesthouse. A little twin bed room with shared bathrooms, it was cosy but cheap and in a good area.
Went and had something to eat then got our head down as we decided to do some sight-seeing the next day
KL tower was on the menu, off we went to the 'Telecommunications Tower', impressive. With the ticket we got, we could go up the tower, ride the F1 simulators, entry to the animal park at the bottom and ride a pony. After much deliberation and seeing just 10 year olds on them we decided to leave the pony ride out (I was well gutted. Reece). The view was amazing the simulator was ok (not long, and F1 on xbox i think is better..) and the animals were cool especially the Boas we had round our necks! I shit myself.
Had a bit off time left after, we heard that the Bridge at the Petronas Towers was closed for refurb so decided to skip it?? I don't know what my mind is playing at as I really want to go round and look anyway but for some reason I was in a rush to get to somewhere I don't know about. We went and had a look round the new mall which was swanky and huge! Massive, and there is a couple just in KL, they put Lakeside to shame... no primark though so lose points there.
We treated ourselves to a subway then walked round the corner and what was there.. a Nandos, gutted. In the mall they had a DC comics shop which was awesome, shame KL is expensive and we had spent too much already. There was a few tops I wanted and the superman pants, they looked the part. We also bought our onward coach tickets to Singapore, seeing as these cities are expensive to stay in we are trying to get threw them quick which is a shame as there is so much to see.
11.30 the next day we was leaving Malaysia for a few days to head into Singapore, not before I got stopped at customs and nearly put in prison...
