The bus ride only took about 20 minutes to get there and I think we arrived at the park at around 10 am. Another tip the girl from Bristol had given us was to complete the bottom circuit first along with the little boat ride over to San Martin Island and then do the top track and Devil's throat last as the light is so much better in the afternoon. It's great that other people have tried and tested it first and told us the best way to do it.
As the park is so much bigger than Brazil, there was a lot of walking involved with lots of steep steps. Good exercise! The first trail we did was lower circuit which led you down the steep hill so you could take the little boat over to San Martin Island
By the time we had walked to the bottom of the hill to catch the boat, my legs had started hurting again. For goodness sake, when is this ever gonna get better. It's still fine walking up hill, it's so painful when I walk down hill. I haven't had any problems for at least a week, so I thought it had cleared up. I'm not gonna let it ruin my day as this place is amazing.
We got on the boat and took the 2 minute ride across the river to the Island and followed the track up through the forest to the top of the hill. Here we saw some amazing colourful birds that we interested in eating people's food. One girl held her hand out and one of the birds flew over, landed in her hand, grabbed the food and then flew off. We tried to pretend we had food, but these birds aren't stupid. They can tell when you have a screwed up leaf in your hand!!!
After spending about 1 hour walking around the island, we headed back to catch the boat and go and grab some food as we were pretty hungry. We had been given vouchers for a restaurant in the park which was all you can eat for $60 pesos, which is less than 10 pounds. Sounds like a plan Stan!
On the way back on the lower trail, we came face to face with more Quatis, the animals that we saw yesterday. I sat down on the wall for a second to have a drink and the next thing I know I have one of them sat on me trying to nuzzle in on my handbag
We got to the restaurant and it was an all you can eat buffet. They had loads of salads, vegetable dishes, a few meat options and loads of desserts. Hmmmm, I can feel a feast coming on. I was really good, I had two plate fulls of salad, followed by a big plate of desserts, a taster of nearly every single one of them, along with a plate of fresh fruit to balance it off. Hanna didn't have anything as she had already prepared a packed lunch. Max and Anni stuffed their faces too and they had even more dessert than me. Their eye's were definately bigger than their bellies. Whilst we were waiting for Hanna to go and get an ice cream, Anni and Max led down on the wall and I thought they were never going to get up. Serves em right for being so greedy!!!!
We decided to leave the top trail until last and catch the little train which takes you up to the main attraction, the Devil's Throat
When we got there, my breathe was taken away. I cannot describe in words how I felt and what it was like. Nature is an incredible thing and this waterfall is just incredible. The force and the power that it creates was unbelievable. I won't even try to describe it as I can't. The photo's do not do it justice either. I loved it here. I could of sat on a very secure rock and stayed here forever. I truely was mesmerized by it.
We all must have stayed on the platform for well over an hour and none of us wanted to leave. We were messing around up there taking stupid photo's and just being silly.
I cannot believe that the water above that looks so tranquil and calm, suddenly turns into this rage and is thrown over the side of the cliff face
We finally, reluctantly, pulled ourselves away from the falls and caught the train back to the main station and headed off to do the last of the walks. It was a pleasant walk, but we had seen the real deal, so the waterfalls we saw here looked like mere trickles. The highlight for this last walk though was that Max and I spotted a Toucan high up in the trees. I was so pleased as I hadn't seen one and the only other animal that we could see, which we didn't, were monkeys.
Whilst I was waiting for the bus to take us back to the bus station, three little monkeys appeared from nowhere, so I did in fact see all the animals in the park!!!!!!
We celebrated when we got back to the hostel by cooking good food (yeah right, I had chicken nuggets, mash potato and butter beans!) and good wine!!! It ended up being quite a late night, as we are all heading off in different directions tomorrow. What a shame, as we made such a good bond very quickly!!!
Tomorrow, leaving Argentina behind for the last time and going to Brazil. Bring on the Samba!!!!!
