Yesterday, I arrived in Alice Springs around 9 am.  Luckily for me there was a  free pick up from the train station by my hostel.  Arrived just before 10 am, however, could not check in until 11 am so took the advantage of doing all of my washing - what an exciting life I lead eh!

Whilst I was sat around waiting for my washing to finish, I bumped in to two girls that were on my tour from Perth - Mary (mother of god) and Karen.  They were leaving that day, but kindly showed me around town so I could get my bearings.

The hostel I am staying in is completely different to the last.  It is in a large house/bungalow with about 12 rooms.  It has a nice chill out area and swimming pool and is so laid back, it's horizontal.  Just what I needed after Darwin!

Came back and booked myself on to a 3 day tour of Uluru and the surrounding area.  I leave at 5.45 am on Saturday morning.  No partying on Friday night then eh!

Really didn't do much last night as I didn't get a proper nights sleep on the train so went to bed around 9 ish.  Yawn yawn!

Today was completely different!  Woke up around 6 ish as the 5 Taiwan people in my room were packing up and getting ready to go.  I had some breakfast (which is free here - yippee!) and decided what to do for the day.

P.J, the guy that runs this place is so helpful.  I said that I wanted to go around town, but didn't want to walk.  He suggested hiring a bike (push bike).  He charged me $20 for half a day but didn't care what time I got back, so I could have it for the whole day basically.  He suggested that I cycle along to Simpsons Gap which is part of the West MacDonnell ranges outside of Alice Springs.  There is a cycle path that winds through the bush and is pretty flat, so I thought, why not, it's an adventure and I need some exercise.

Oh my god, I will never learn.  By the time I left the hostel it was 10 am so the heat was turning up a bit.  It was 7 kilometres just to get to the start of the cycle track and then another 17 kilometres to get to Simpsons Gap.  It took me exactly 2 hours to get there and excuse my french but I was bolloxed by the time I got there.  I had loads of water with me and took a packed lunch.  It was worth it though and I had a wander round.  The worst bit was that I knew I had to cycle back and it was now 12.30 pm!  Even thought the track was pretty flat, you felt every single slight incline in the path.  The heat that I cycled in was a max of 37 degrees!

I finally got back to the hostel around 3.35 pm after a detour to another hostel as Sylvia back in Broome gave me a message to give to one of her good friends that she used to work with back here in Alice!  I think Susan took pity on me and was also very grateful that I had passed on the message as she gave me a massive bottle of cold water which I necked in one go!

Once I got back to the hostel, I stripped off and threw myself into the freezing cold swimming pool.  I didn't care, I just needed to cool down, which did the trick!

Tonight I am due to meet Sallie who I met in Broome, as she lives here.  Only going out for a quick drink as I have to get up early tomorrow morning and I have to pack a small bag as we are not allowed to take our backpacks with us.  I have to leave it here and make sure P.J. has it by 6.30 pm!

You won't hear from me now probably until Tuesday as I will be out of range walking around Uluru and becoming at one with the Aboriginal people.  Mum - watch out!!!!
