They don't use diapers in China for the most part. Aside from a few of the richer families and for the very youngest babies they aren’t used at all. The children instead are put in pants with the crotch cut open allowing them to go whenever they need. This apparently is the common practice because it reduces waist. In a country with as many people and therefore as much waist as China has, I understand the logic but the view is still odd to me, along with the overall concept. The idea that kids run around; basically bare bottomed, popping squats wherever they are to relieve themselves is alien to me. I wonder how it is possible that the kids and mothers holding them don’t have messes on them all the time, a friend explained that to me though. He said that the babies are potty trained when they are very young. Not potty trained like Americans think of it but trained so they hold it and either go when the mother makes a noise or they make a noise when they have to go and the mother just holds them over at bush or trash can or whatever happens to be close. That is of course for the younger ones; the older ones who can walk will just sit down on the sidewalk or the grass and relieve themselves. It’s crazy to me but that’s China I guess.
