The truck leaves promptly at 8am..we have another long 9 hour drive to cross the border to the Peruvian beach resort of Punta Sal.  If we get searched at the border it could be longer.  Day drives on the truck we normally mix sleep, reading, snacking, bush stops (girls are back, boys at front..a skirt makes stopping anywhere feasible) WE travel from the Andes through the tropical lowlands, past banana plantations.  The lush Ecuadorian vegetation gives way to the desert of Northern Peru.  The change is dramatic and sudden.  The rivers become polluted..we leave behind the clean scapes of Ecuador .  At the first checkpoint Billie and Anton are questioned by the police.  We doubt our chances wit a hippy guide with long dreadlocks ...thinking they may need some help the girls all move to the windows of the truck and we start to smile at the police officers.  They look up, smile and start to wave.  Whether its co-incidence or not..they stop asking questions, Anton gets back in and we drive off.

We arrive at Punta Sal..a small sleepy village close o the town of Mancora.  White sand beaches stretch fr about 28kilometers...we have the poussada bar to ourselves and pitch camp directly n the beach facing the sea.  The next 3  days we laze on the beach, play volley ball with a bunch f Peruvian young teenagers ab-nd ride horses along the beach with Victor, a local Peruvian who has 8 horses...all beautifully kept and well fed.,  They respond well to us and we gallop long the water's edge. This is definitely a place you can veg out in for a few days...Mancora is more developed but here in Punta Sal time passes slowly and you can recuperate ready for Peru!
