Denmark: Copenhagen to Aarhus
From Helsingborg we picked up the ferry to Helsingor illustrating the confusing similarity between the two countries..the drive from here was fascinating along the coastal road of Sjaelland Denmark past luxury mansions, long swathes of beaches and people looking like they'd fit an LA set...and then on through Copenhagen itself - past the impossibly small bars in Nyhavn, the still surviving lost little mermaid, the presidential palaces, and endless boutiques..I'd been to Copenhagen twice before and each time had grown more fond of the place which exudes an air of fun and vibrancy...the essence of the Danish. The campsite was south of the city - perched on a peninsular overlooking the estuary with a small marina and reed beds sporting a collection of waders which would have kept my Step Dad - John amused for several hours...
We chose a secluded spot at one end of the campsite looking out directly over the reed beds... a haven compared to the night before...Thomas had redeemed himself well and we feasted on carbonara on my tiny stove washed down with several cans of beer....
The last two days, whilst Thomas worked I toured the city of Aarhus, a friendly town with a cafe culture, restaurants spilling out onto the streets. I joined a throng of Danish girls crowded into the town cinema to see Sex and the City, with danish subtitled. I posted the leather trousers back, ate out along the canal side, walked along the beaches and forests and got lost in the docks. On the last night I found the Salsa club in Aarhus, on Vestebrade 58 in the Rock cafe. Approximately 50 Danish dancers with the occasional Cuban danced to a mixture of Sol, Bacata, Salsa,Meringue and Reggaeton...it was low key but really friendly and there were enough good dancers to make it worthwhile. I left early as the next morning I was flying to Barcelona...sad to be leaving this place that i felt very relaxed in...I'd enjoyed my time in Denmark and I felt sure I'd be back...
