After much thought, I've decided to write about my summer in Washington D.C. I'm spending the summer working on Capitol Hill, one of almost 10,000 interns here this summer.  They say the summer is overrun with young adults with high ideals and dreams.. I say its quite a blessing.
Lucky for me, my mom, dad, and boyfriend joined me for my first week in D.C.  We spent the week seeing sights and getting my room set up at George Washington University. Some of the highlights of our trip include the National Mall, Vietnam Memorial, Washington Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (giant snake!!), and much much more!
George Washington University (GWU) is found in a part of town called Foggy Bottom.  It's about 4 to 5 blocks shy of the National Mall and just down the road from Georgetown.  It's a very convenient location but I have to say I'm not very impressed with the campus. Some of the buildings are a bit run down and the security often seems questionable at best. But hey, I'm only here for a few months!
At first I was staying in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Building which was deplorable at best.  Hallways smelled like urine, flickering lights, construction from 6:30 am to 7 pm, broken stove, leaky sink, broken fridge... and just plain awful.  So after a few (ha!) phone calls to the housing office I moved into Strong Hall.  This is a dorm which was renovated into a sorority house.  I have the usual dorm style room but I get a fully stocked kitchen and commons room on the first floor.   The building is much further away from the metro but has everything I need and feels a bit more like home.

More to come
