We got to bed at around 11, which felt like 8 to us, and slept until around 7, which felt like 4, so we were both pretty tired. We went down to the Lord Nelson's Brasserie for their continental breakfast of yogurt, muesli, toast and coffee, and headed out into what was supposed to be a cold rainy day but was instead very warm and sunshiny. We walked through the Rocks past Circular Quay to the Customs House, where we convened with a German couple, a Malaysian couple, and a young guy from Hong Kong to go on our 3-hour PeekTour walking excursion through the Rocks and the Central Business District with our guide Greg, a congenial Australian with a good line of patter about local history and culture. It's a free tour and you tip him at the end--probably a good business model. The first two hours of the tour until we broke for a quick lunch were great, and then the clouds rolled in and we could hear thunder in the distance, so we quickly walked through Hyde Park and the Botanical Gardens back to Circular Quay. We got under a covered walkway just a little after it started to pour, making our decision not to bring an umbrella look not so good. We went into a Guylan Belgian Chocolate Cafe, got something to help us get through the storm, and when the rain had mostly subsided we walked back to the hotel, napped, did some writing, and walked over to the "Fish on the Rocks" restaurant a block from the hotel and had a very fine meal, walked back, tried for most of the evening to get an Internet connection, and finally gave up.
