On Saturday i went to Xi'an cty wall... it was only a short walk from my hotel to the south gate - however crossing the road to get to it was not so easy!!!  But once safely accross, i paid my 40 yuan and then ascended the steps to the top of this ancient city wall.

I walked the first part, taking time to look out and about - first i looked at the crazy road i had crossed - ooo scary!! Obviously much of the landscape is now modern buildings but there were some nice buildings round and about too. I paid 40 yuan to hire a bike for 90 mins, this bike had no gears or suspension and the brakes were a bit dodgy but it did the job. I then cycled round the rest of the wall, as you can see from the video it was a bit bumpy! I stopped and looked out from the wall often to see what I could see. One time a load of school kids went by - it was crazy all these kids shouting hello and stuff.

Some people just walked or ran round the wall, some took golf buggies.

On either side of the wall I saw people working, playing table tennis, roller skating, I saw the childrens hospital, the railway and bus station i had been to the day before on my way to the terra-cotta warriors and horses. I saw temples, markets.

Once i had finished the lap of the wall, i went to the south gate square and waited for 1.30pm when some guys dressed up as soilders came out for people to take pics. While i was waiting a girl came to chat to me and asked if i wanted to play  this game where they kick this weighted thing with feathers up in the air (try not to let it fall) i was useless at it but her boyfriend demonstrated.

After that i wandered around nearby the wall into anther market, here they sold many paintbrushes, flutes and all the other usual kind of stuff, but still i find it so interesting.

later i was walking along and a child picked up some leaves to throw at another child, i noticed they were the ginko leaves like the old ones i had seen painted some weeks ago now!

Now everywhere you go to a market they sell these walnuts in pairs, and all different prices, some are so expensive!!! - so here "In China, pairs of walnuts have traditionally been rotated and played with in the palm of the hand, both as a means to stimulate blood circulation and as a status symbol. Pairs of large, old and symmetrically shaped walnuts are valued highly and have recently been used as an investment, with some of them fetching a lot of money".  Amy i think of you and the walnut!! There are so many walnuts here for eating too - put in a machine i had on my blog the other day, Shops sell them loose and packets and packets of them, but i see the wording here is walnust hmm.

It may seem odd to us to see trotters there for sale for consumption, and I may not fancy eating one but i quite like no part of the animal is wasted.

anyway i didnt get back to the pagoda - but i had a great time in Xi'an - its quite tiring all this travel on my own :o)

The dancers are from Friday night (after i post my blog) i was in my hotel when i heard the noise so went out for a look ! :)
