Today i woke to some nice refreshing rain - i hope it cleans the air a bit thought perhaps it cannot do that for long - goodness knows what is in the air.

I went to class - as you can see there were some difficulties trying to find software on students machines - but we got there. i got this student to show me the menu, took a photo so i could show another student.

After class Zhao and I went for lunch - in the staff canteen. Luch was very nice (well part of it) and also very cheap! I took a picture of it for you to see! Zhao gave me a zpoon as well as sticks but i didn't need it. It seems if they have soup they eat it after their main meal.

After lunch i went for a walk around campus again - it was nice in the rain - very warm and the air smelt clean. I decided to look in the library - which is absolutely massive. I needed my uni card to get in - as i approached the electronic gate with my card i thought " i hope this works"
if it hadn't I would not have been flustered or bothered in anyway - i just get on and do what i can - i have only seen 3 other foreigners like me on campus - i must stand out like a sore thumb - but i feel fine - everyone is nice and lets me get on with whatever i am doing. (As i type i hear more fireworks)

I ventured into one or two  of the smaller shops - I bought a plant for my room - in a very cute little pot!!! I also bought a notebook that says NUIST on the front. In these small campus shops you can use your uni card to pay for things (providing you have put credit on it first of cousre) but it is very handy - just swipe the card over the till and its paid. more packets of chicken feet... need to get a pic for you - maybe i should buy some and try them! I suppose I should while I am here! There were some massive pot noodles in here - not sure the pic shows the true size of them  it was like supersize noodles!

Last week i was asked if i would go to one of the student's classes "English corner" (tonight); it is at Bin Jiang's univeristy - still on this campus - it is where they get foreign teachers to speak to the students in English - so i went along it is an actual class and a register was taken - it was held in the canteen - and was very relaxed - I was the only native English speaker to turn up - so tere were lots of people asking me lots of questions - it was very funny at times. The students seemed to enjoy it very much - we chatted away, made each other laugh. At one point I asked them if they would like to go early and they made it very clear they did not, they said they liked talking to me, we chatted about all sorts - i showed them a picture of what i had been told was a carrot - they looked it up on a translator and said it was a radish or turnip - this seems more likely to me. One girls said she liked to eat it - quite often here people say they like eating. I had a great night - it was good to know i was helping them too - I will definately go again. I asked if they would like me to take my laptop next time and show them pictures of home - they were very excited about that. After it finished, everyone said byebye and two students walked me all the way back to my place. On the way they chatted more, they told me things like how a few/couple of years ago one student jumped in the lake as he split up with his girlfriend! They told me that for one years education fee it costs 13000Yuan. All in all it was an interesting and enjoyable night.

What if you had tried to get into the library, and the gate closed on you when you were halfway through, trapping you? Then all students gather around and say "typical foreigner" hehe Would you have got flustered then? ;o)

Were any of the books in the library in English? I laughed at the photo you took of the C++ code in the book - looked half Englsih , half Chinese - scary! ;o)

I think you should definately try chicken feet - you haven't lived until you have at least tried them!

I make that about £13k a year, how many years do they majority of the courses last for?

I like the way you're happy to help them out, mind you I suppose the decision isn't hard when they seem to friendly and appreciative.
