We hope you got our sms, Mom, Dad, Thomas and Antonio! We sent them yesterday, just when we were sitting in our cab from the airport to the hotel.
The flight was quite allright, the food was crap, but service and scheduling were nothing to complain about. Mahan Air planes are rather old, but well tended and the staff was really friendly.
During our 3 h stop in Teheran we were given free food and drink and could sleep a little in the surprisingly newish nd modern airport.
Arrival in BKK was on time. The new airport is pretty stylish and veeeeeeeeery big! The first days it was open, some weeks ago, must have been different, but we experienced very quick and efficient service. By the time we had arrived at the luggage belt, our bags were already there.

We took a cab through the rush hour and only found th hotel because Miriam was so attentive - the driver had got lost. The New Siam II Guesthouse is really nice, small and simple, but very friendly, clean and efficient. It's somewhat North of Kao San Road, one road behind the river, in a small Soi that is VERY quiet. We even have a pool!

After unpacking an washing, we went out towards KSR, for dinner first (Pad Thai / fried noodles and fried rice) and then over to KSR where we just soaked up the atmosphere and had a beer at Gulliver's. It was just like I had had it in mind - a whole road full of crazy people from all over the world, and many thais also.
At around 11 pm, we walked back home, a short and pleasant walk that takes you away from all that crazyness.

Today, after a brakfast of Banana pancake and Noodle Soup, we went to an optician in order to buy me some new glasses and then to Siam Square for some shopping. I did order some really beautiful rimless glasses, bu Miriam did not find anything to buy.
Again, we took the Skytrain (which is just sooooo convenient!) to a little and rather unknown palace, once residence of a princess. It was a garden with some beautiful old thai houses on stilts, quiet and peaceful.

Going back to our hotel once again showed the nature of those Tuk-Tuks: The one we hailed down asked 100 Baht and when i offered 50, he scorned and left. Our metered Taxi cost 65 Baht AND had aircon. I will never understand why everubody's using them all the time.

Now, we've just come out of 1 h Thai massage and do feel relaxed indeed. After some more ralxing by the pool, we'll have to figure out how and when to go to Khao Lak. Then, we'll meet up with my colleague Andreas who happens to be here on a business trip. Since he is a hardened drinker, tonight might turn into a vERY good night out.

Folks, take care and don't worry about those two young ladies in Thailand ...
